There was another good start to the credit of Alfred Nilsson (SWE) in the Final of the Academy Trophy. The battle was soon commenced by his pursuers which allowed him to complete the first lap with 1.4s lead. Maciej Szyszko (POL) again took 2nd place at the expense of Elias Goldstein (BEL) who dropped to 6th position. Kas Haverkort (NLD) was 3rd and Callum Bradshaw (GBR) 4th. Just as he had done in the Prefinal Goldstein was back like a rocket in 2nd position. Oliver Clarke (GBR) took the opportunity to take the advantage from Bradshaw for 4th place, while Szyszko fell back. Goldstein increased the pace and was approaching Nilsson at high speed. He was in its wheeltracks on lap 8 and took the lead on the next lap. Then Haverkort passed for 2nd ahead of Swede. Meanwhile, Bradshaw took over 4th position and chased the top three.
Haverkort passed Goldstein after halfway and took control as the group stretched out slightly. Bradshaw was almost back in contact. Goldstein had not had his last word and did everything he could to get closer to Haverkort. The threat became clearer as the laps went on, but the Dutchman did not lose his composure and won the Final less than 2/10 from Goldstein. Both drivers, however, demonstrated good maturity. Nilsson would have to settle for 3rd place ahead of Bradshaw, Clarke and Füngeling. Bradshaw won the 2016 Academy Trophy in front of Nilsson and Haverkort.
